w/c 16 July: Bastad, Newport, Umag, Bucharest, Gstaad and World Team Tennis

After the grandeur of Wimbledon there’s no rest for many of the top tennis players, who are back on tour in ATP 250, WTA International and other events.


ATP 250, FreeSports

The SkiStar Swedish Open takes place on the clay in Bastad. David Ferrer will be there to defend his title, and Diego Schwartzman is the top seed.

There will be coverage on FreeSports throughout the week, and they’re replaying each day’s play overnight too.

ATP 250

For those players who haven’t had enough of grass, they can find some in Newport, Rhode Island, at the Dell Technologies Hall of Fame Open.

John Isner won last year but withdrew after his marathon semi-final at Wimbledon. The top seed this year is Adrian Mannarino. There’s British representation in the doubles; Luke Bambridge and Jonny O’Mara team up, while Ken Skupski partners Purav Raja.

Coverage is on Tennis TV only; they have 21 matches throughout the week from Monday.


ATP 250

Kyle Edmund was top seed this week but withdrew late from The Plava Laguna Croatia Open in Umag, which was was won by Andrey Rublev in 2017. Dom Inglot continues his partnership with Franko Skugor and they are top seed in the doubles.

This clay court tournament is also only on Tennis TV, covering 13 matches from Monday.


WTA International, BT Sport

Last year’s winner Irina-Camelia Begu returns to Bucharest; Anastasija Sevastova is the top seed.

The BRD Bucharest Open is played on clay, and is on BT Sport throughout the week.

WTA International

The Ladies Championshop Gstaad by Ixion Services is not broadcast on television in the UK and is also not available on WTA TV.

Alizé Cornet is top seed. Last year’s champion Kiki Bertens is not competing.

World Team Tennis

British tennis fans may not be that familiar with World Team Tennis, which is a mixed-gender tennis league in the United States. Each team plays each other at home and away starting on Sunday night, through to a championship final on 5 August.

Brits who have been named in taking part are Neal Skupski for New York Empire; Naomi Broady and Marcus Willis are in the San Diego Aviators team.

This year, for the first time there is free live streaming of the whole competition at wtt.tv. All of the matches with their UK times are listed here:
