Week 21 (w/c 20 May): Geneva, Lyon, Nuremberg, Strasbourg, Roland Garros qualifying

The last week of preparation for the French Open, as qualifying at Roland Garros also gets underway.

Geneva

ATP 250, Eurosport 

I’m in Geneva for the early part of this week hoping to catch some top live tennis on the clay.

Sadly there are no Brits playing in singles here but last year’s champion Marton Fucsovics returns, and Alexander Zverev is the top seed.

There is coverage this week mostly on Eurosport Player and some matches on Eurosport 2.

Cameron Norrie reached his first ATP semi-final in Lyon last year.

Lyon

ATP 250, Amazon Prime Video

The other ATP event this week is in Lyon, France.

Cameron Norrie is playing here, and is defending semi final points.

The top seed is Nikoloz Basilashvili. Last year the Lyon Open was won by Dominic Thiem but he is not returning in 2019.

Nuremburg

WTA International, Eurosport

Katie Boulter was due to play at  the Nürnberger Versicherungscup but withdrew with the injury that developed following the Fed Cup last month.

Last year this tournament was won by Johanna Larsson, and Yulia Putintseva is the top seed this time round.

Eurosport has coverage from the semi-finals on Eurosport Player, with highlights on Eurosport 2, Friday and Saturday.

Strasbourg

WTA International, BT Sport

The Internationaux de Strasbourg was won by Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in 2018. Ashleigh Barty is the top seed for longest running tour event his week, the 33rd edition this year.

Roland Garros Qualifying

Grand Slam, Eurosport

Qualifying for the French Open begins on Monday.

Jay Clarke, James Ward, Heather Watson, Harriet Dart and Katie Swan are the five Brits hoping to get a place in the main draw.

Eurosport Player has multi-court coverage from Paris every day, and the best of the action is on Eurosport 2 also.

The main draw ceremony for Roland Garros takes place on Thursday, and will be live on Eurosport 2 at 18:00.

The French Open main draw starts on Sunday 26 May with coverage across Eurosport and ITV.

Brydan Klein will play the sole Challenger this week in Jerusalem, Israel.

As reported on Friday, Amazon Prime Video will have the rights to the WTA tour in 2020, taking over from BT Sport.
