Week 26 (w/c 23 June): Eastbourne, Antalya, Wimbledon qualifying

We’re into the final week of grass tournaments before Wimbledon, for which qualifying also takes place.

Kyle Edmund reached the quarter finals in Eastbourne in 2018 after beating Andy Murray, but then lost to Mikhail Kukushkin.


WTA Premier and ATP 250, Eurosport/BBC and Prime Video

The Nature Valley International is the final stop on the British grass season before Wimbledon, and a host of big names will be looking to get some experience on grass before heading to SW19.

The WTA event here is the biggest tournament this week and only women’s competition on the tour. The women’s main draw starts on Sunday.

Ashleigh Barty is the top seed in Eastbourne and Caroline Wozniacki will defend her title. Johanna Konta plays here, with wildcards for Harriet Dart, Katie Swan and Heather Watson with all Brits playing their first round matches on Sunday. There were qualifying wildcards for Freya Christie and Alicia Barnett.

In doubles, Heather Watson and Harriet Dart received a wildcard.

In the ATP draw Kyle Edmund is the third seed. Cameron Norrie got direct acceptance, with wildcards for Dan Evans and Jay ClarkeJames Ward and Paul Jubb got qualifying wildcards. Top seed is Guido Pella, while last year’s champion Mischa Zverev did not enter as he expected to be competing in Wimbledon qualifying.

Andy Murray partners Marcelo Melo in doubles, Dominic Inglot and Austin Krajicek are fourth seeds. Luke Bambridge and Jonny O’Mara got direct entry while Dan Evans and Lloyd Glasspool, and Scott Clayton and James Ward got wildcards.

Television coverage starts on Monday so Sunday’s first round matches are only online on WTA TV. The women’s matches are then televised on Eurosport and the BBC, with the men’s exclusive to Amazon Prime Video.

For those preferring sunnier climes, the Turkish Airlines Open takes place ion the southern coast of Turkey.

Benoit Paire is the top seed here and Damir Dzumhur is the defending champion.

The tournament is shown on Amazon Prime Video and, like Eastbourne, has a Saturday final.

Wimbledon qualifying

Grand Slam, BBC

The following British players will take part in qualifying for Wimbledon, which takes place at Roehampton on Monday to Thursday.

Men: Liam Broady, Jan Choinski, Jack Draper, Evan Hoyt and Aidan McHugh all got wildcards. Ryan Peniston and Mark Whitehouse were awarded wildcards having won the play-off competition last week.

Women: Naiktha Bains enters qualifying on her ranking. Katie Dunne, Francesca Jones, Maia Lumsden, Emma Raducanu and Gabriella Taylor were awarded qualifying wildcards, while the play-off wildcards were picked up by Samantha Murray and Eden Silva.

There will be coverage of selected courts at Roehampton on the BBC Red Button as well as the BBC Sport app and website. Coverage may be shown on BBC Two if there is no play to show from Eastbourne.

The following British players are in the main draw at Wimbledon.

Men: Kyle Edmund, Cameron Norrie and Dan Evans on ranking; wildcards for Jay Clarke, Paul Jubb and James Ward.

Women: Johanna Konta was the only one to make the cut on ranking, Heather Watson was just outside so got a main draw wildcard along with Harriet Dart and Katie Swan. Katie Boulter who is recovering from injury was also just outside the main draw but did not enter qualifying and did not take a wildcard.


There is just one ATP Challenger in Milan this week and no Brits entered. There are no ITF W60+ tournaments this week.
